Show children a photograph or painting of a tree, such as Ansel Adams' Oak Tree Sunrise.

Ask children to pretend they are a tree, with feet rooted in the ground.

Ask them to lift one leg and place it on the other leg and put their arms out like branches.

It's okay if they wobble, as trees sway in the breeze.  Try to stay rooted and grounded, while reaching up toward the sun.

Downward Facing Dog

Ask children if they've ever seen a dog stretch with his paws extended and his tail in the air.  This is called "downward facing dog" in yoga.

Ask children to pretend they are a dog and have just woken up from a long nap.

Ask your little doggies to put their paws on the ground and stretch their tails in the air.  Barking is optional.  :)

Ask children if they've ever seen a cat stretch with it's back high up in the air.

Ask children to get on both knees and place their hands on the floor.

Ask them to arch their backs in the air and stretch into cat pose.  Meow!
